Chrome is eager to explain how to use keyboard shortcuts but nowhere do I find how to use the mouse in lieu of those shortcuts. Being much on the keyboard in my line of work, often makes me want to stay on the trackball more. There seems to be no consideration for that.

besides, if you know what Ctrl+F does, then you know you will be using the keyboard to type anyways. something you cannot do with a "mouse shortcut".

far too many keyboard choices and far to few with a mouse. best that can be done is to enable spots within an app that allows you to mouse-click on them and thus trigger a shortcut -- and that depends on the app's programmers to do it

No. Most mice only have three buttons and two axes of movement. There's no decent way to map any sort of gestures onto that. You could buy a mouse with macro buttons, but there wouldn't be a native way to set the buttons in Chrome OS (you could set the buttons in Windows and then connect it to the Chromebook, however).
