A pitcher supplies a power of P = 224 W to a baseball of mass m = 0.075 kg for a period of t = 0.28 s.

A.) What is the ball's speed in m/s when it leaves his hand?

Energy E = P*t = m/2*V^2
V = √2*P*t/m = √2*224*0.28/0.075 = 41 m/sec

We know the speed can be found from the kinetic energy in Joules = power * time
224W = 224J/s
224J/s*0.28s = 62.72J = ½mV² = ½*0.075*V²
2*62.72/0.075 = V² = 40.9²
V = 40.9m/s  A.)
Or about 147km/h which is about 92mph

Assuming the ball is thrown horizontally and starts from rest, the work done will increase the kinetic energy.  one Watt = one Joule per second

224 J/s(0.28 s) = ½(0.075 kg)v² m²/s²
v = 40.8966... ≈ 41 m/s◄
