Mental Health Diagnosis?

Question

Hi, I am 17, I spoke to my GP yesterday about my mental health (social anxiety and depression) and have been told to refer myself to YPAS (Young Person's Advisory Service) (this is similar to CAMHS i believe) Just wondering if anyone knows, will they be able to diagnose me with these conditions? Any info about how diagnosis works for young people in the UK will be appreciated thank you. This is a NHS service in the UK. Please only reply if from the UK, thanks!

Congratulations for taking step #1.  There is no way to know what/how/how long the diagnosis will take.  But, again, everyone seems to come on Yahoo to be confrontational but does nothing to help himself/herself.  You are the exception!  I trust this will work out well.

They will probably refer you again...to a psychiatrist and your diagnosis might take up to 6 months. That’s the case here in Canada atleast
