Maybe to take care of the mother because the mother's sick or feels lonely ever since she emptied her nest and/or husband died/left her idk.

That’s about the dumbest thing to have a gf or bf in another country. Clearly he wants to pretend he has a gf but doesn’t really have one if you’re not having sex nightly, weekly, or even monthly. He needs his mother for his laundry and bills.
