Yahoo Answers is shutting down on May 4th, 2021 (Eastern Time) and the Yahoo Answers website is now in read-only mode. There will be no changes to other Yahoo properties or services, or your Yahoo account. You can find more information about the Yahoo Answers shutdown and how to download your data on this help page.

On Windows XP, Microsoft IE, is there a way to make links to Word & Excel open up in their own software?

Update:

It appears that the question period has expired. If you have received an answer that meets your needs, please choose a 'best answer.'

If you haven't received a good answer for your question, you may want to consider the following,

    1) Re-post your question. Newer questions get more activity on Yahoo! Answers than old ones.

    2) If you do re-post your question, consider why it wasn't answered the first time. Could it be more specific? Could it be worded better? Were there grammatical or spelling errors? Was it in the best category?

If it doesn't seem likely that re-posting your question will help you, then here's a listing of my favorite 'answer sites'. Maybe one of them will help you.

I assume you mean can you have a Microsoft Office or Excel document open in that respective program when you click a web link to one. If that is what you want to do, perform the following steps:

Go to Start > My Computer then go to Tools > Foloder Otions and click the File Types Tab then scroll down the Registered File Types list until you find DOC (for Office documents) and then click the Advanced button at the bottom of the dialog box and uncheck the Browse in same Window option.

Do the same thing for the XLS extensions for Excel spreadsheets.

Hope this is what you were looking for.
