Looking for some guidelines for dieting?

I am trying to lose some weight. Right now I am doing a 2 day detox before I start. But I just need some advice. I am always on the run and it is hard to find the time to make a meal, so I just want to see if these are the right type of food.

Morning- a piece of fruit with a breakfast lean pocket, or toast and egg substitute with fruit.

Snack- vegetables, fruits, low-cal snacks, under 100 cals from chips ahoy, etc.

Lunch- Turkey sandwich on lite bread, with lettuce and vegetables

Snack- same as above

Dinner- Large ice burg lettuce salad with carrots, cauliflower, a few nuts, fat free italian dressing, a few ff croutons, 3 oz chicken, light cheese.

Snack- Under 50 calories.

Plus lots of water.

I love soda and have always drank diet soda, so would I be stopping my weight loss to drink a glass of diet soda at night.

Also, is it true that baked potatoes are good to have on a diet with nothing on them. I love taters.

I'm kind of following the 3 hour diet, is this any good?

Update:

What kinds of foods are something that I don't need to keep as track of as much? Food I don't really need to be concerned with.

I'm basing my meals on some of what was said in the 3 hour diet from Jorge Cruise, a little bit of everything at each meal, but I'm not sure this is a good idea or not.

Thanks so much for your help

Update 2:

Also, what would be a list of some good things to get in the house that would be healthy and still easy to make/eat?

the foods you have chosen are a good choice. As far as the portions are concerned, it is hard to tell you if that is enough food or too much for you. It all depends on your weight.

one great tip i like to give to people is to clean up their cupboards of all junk food that could cause you to fall off your diet.

another tip that works extremly well is to prepare all your food at night for the following day, that way you can carry it around easily in a small container and eat it when you have time.

an excellent way to determine your portions is this:

protein: this portion should be the size of your palm

carbs: this should be the size of two clenched fists

fats: a tablespoon per meal of good oils like olive oil, flaxseed oil, or mayonaise, almonds, peanuts and other type of nuts about 2 thumbs size

proteins are your meats or cottage cheese 1%(the only good cheese for dieting), low fat milk 1%, etc

carbs are your veggies and fruits as well as oatmeal.

i do not know who jorge cruise is, however his concept is good, as a balance diet is the key. You should try and eat small meals every 3 hours, that way you will not overload your system with too much food and wont gain weight.

some of the best and cheapest foods i would recommend i wrote above, most are easy to make or require little or not preparation

if you need more help or have more questions, let me know

    good luck

thanks for the help with my answer, now i can help u with somthing too!!! ^^ Ok well mom just started a "diet" program and im the main cook and food buyer of the hose so heres what i learned. the best diet is no diet, eating healthy should be your main goal. also no food is forbiden!!! making foods forbiden only makes you want them more, all of your favorite un-healthy foods can be worked into your diet in moderation. no iceberg lettuce!!! the greener the veggie the better it is for you, if your eating lettuce any way the greener the better, try boston or romain. raw spinach is also a great source of nutrition, and it really does taste good. snack wise there are TONS of choices in your local kroger's helth market section. try cinnimon puffins cereal, its low in fat and very good for you, it tastes great too. so do quakes soy chips, they are the best ive come across so far. also try TLC crackers by kashi, comprable to wheat thins but really for the calorie difference i prefer wheat thins. possibly the most important thing to remember is not to go hungry!!! when you r hungry your body thinks its starving, so the next time you eat it'll pack away the fat to store for later. eating at least a snack every 4 hours will speed up your matabolism!!! also stop eating when you r full, dont stuff yourself. snacking also helps prevent over eating. most importantly check out your local trader joes and kroger nartural food secrion, you can find some great snacks there that wont leave you feeling guilty. if you can afford it a nutritionist (haha bad spelling) is a fabulous idea. good luck with the diet, i hope these tips help you at leat a little bit!!!
