2005 Chevy Aveo Getting horrible gas mileage?

Hi, my brother has a 2005 chevy aveo. He is only averaging about 16 miles per gallon, on a good tank. We have had it serviced several times and they cannot find anything wrong. He mostly does in town driving and only about 2-5 miles per day average, sometimes more.

Is anyone else experiencing this problem? A person he works with has an 05' and it is doing the same thing. I read reviews online of the '04 and everyone seems to be getting great mileage, I've not seen anything for the 05'. I have an 05' Chevy Malibu Maxx and I am getting better than he is.

If you could give me any tips or advice I would really appreciate it.

Have a friend with the same problem...seems like they come from the factory with either a timing problem or a spark plug problem (I can't remember which) when they did his "checkup" did they check the timing? Maybe it should be put on the computer...the car may be set to run really lean (mine did that) and is wasting fuel. Just fuel for thought...

I know of a vehicle that gets great mileage, costs little, costs almost nothing to run and does a lot to cut emitions of green-house gasses. The bicycle. It can also save you time on short trips. I ride to work (2.8mi.) in 12-13 minuts, it can take up-to twenty to drive. I also feel wide awake and ready-to-go with a little excersize first thing in the morning.

It could be he's doing a lot of stop-and-go, or starting up the motor and turning it off quickly, not letting it warm up etc...
