California Senate votes to support work boycott

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Some Democratic state lawmakers are planning to walk off the job in California on Monday -- just as millions of others around the country are expected to -- in support of immigrants' rights.

The California Senate, controlled by Democrats, approved a resolution on a party-line vote supporting the May 1 "Great American Boycott 2006," which supporters say will serve as a warning to Congress to avoid punitive immigration changes.

Organizers say the workplace boycott will show just how vital immigrants are to America's major cities and the nation's economy. Large numbers of students are also expected to participate.

"These immigrants are fighting to embrace this nation," said Sen. Richard Alarcon, D-Van Nuys. "What a good time this is when people can express their anger, their frustration, desires, hopes and dreams, all for the purpose of becoming American. That's a good thing!

"These immigrants are fighting to embrace this nation."

That is funny. Of course, how did I miss it. Waving a foreign flag, speaking a foreign language, demanding free services, bastardizing the National Anthem. Sound like their trying to embrace this nation - in a war!

I believe that this is going to backfire on them. In California we need to stop electing these people who hate living in this country. That's the only reason I can explain why they would boycott it.

You really do not understand this problem, do you? You are making a very complex issue that has no one good answer or fix into a black or white problem. Somewhere, some how, you are going to have a very rude awakening. I have seen so many arguements pro and con, none of which hold water. No matter how you look at it, it is a problem that will not go away...so compromises must be made. Nothing is that black or white.

This is a battle not of immigrants rights..but of the demands of Illegals. I enjoy immigrants and how they took the time to do it correctly. They ones who circumvent the law are the ones who are casting a long shadow on ALL immigrants; not the people who wish to live in a society of laws.

It's a shame when an issue this involved and serious becomes just another medium for parties to take pot-shots at one another.

Politicians tend to be overly political consequence-minded. This leads to issuing misleading statements to get their agenda moved forward, and grandstanding in a way which serves no purpose.

As citizens, we should hold them to a higher standard, not imitate them.

stupid little bitches in our senate need to be tarred and feathered. I hope the workers all get fired for not showing up. as for me, I am oing shopping on Monday and I will be eating out for all three meals. I am sick and tired that the money that is taken out my paycheck for CA state taxes goes for paying for the health and well being of these illegals.

Why don't the Mexicans in Mexico go on a labor strike in their country to tell their leaders to make things better?

Then let's go shopping. The people working will speak English and the stores won't be crowded. I'm ready.

Liberals think they are compassionate when they:

    A. Take other peoples money to give to the poor.

    B. Stand up for people who do not deserve to be stood up for.
