are genetic diseases hereditary? do the words mean the same thing?

    Yes. Genetic diseases are passed to future generations through the 23 pairs of chromosomes from each parent.

    Genetic and hereditary diseases are one and the same.

    Most genetic diseases are hereditary. Some are not. Some are due to an abnormality in a gene that occurs only in that person. Hereditary means passed down, genetically, from parents. However other things than disease are hereditary, such as eye color, race, etc.

    Hereditary diseases can be genetic but genetic illness/disease is not always passed down to others. Example: Say I have a child, the child is born with lymphedema and they say it's genetic, If I didn't have lymphedema, that child would be the start of the genetic breakdown but it's not hereditary because I didn't have it.
