What effects blood glucose levels?

My Mom recently has been diagnosed with 1st stage alzheimers. She was just released from the hospital, for a fall. Since that time, her sugar levels are very high, around 250. What could be causing this?

Update:

oops, I mean affects....

Update 2:

Sorry, She is insulin dependent diabetic, and has had it under control for years. just wondering what could be causing the elevated levels now. It has only been within the last week that it has gone so high.

I'm not a doctor but have had diabetes for 38 years and know a bit about it. Blood sugar levels can be influanced by diet, exersise, stress, medications and a bunch more things. I would ask her doctor about any new meds she's taking and if they could raise her blood sugars. If she's taking medications for type 2 diabetes, make sure she takes them ontime and eats ontime and her regular diet. Doctors tell me to keep my blood sugars averaging below 160. Talk to her doctor and see what they think. Good luck.

Is she on any meds for her Alzheimer's? This could be it or it could be her diet. Is she diabetic as well...if she hasn't already been diagnosed but has had more than two readings of fasting blood sugars over 200 then she should definitely see a doc. High blood sugar can cause serious damage in her body...kill her kidneys, sores that won't heal and resulting amputations, neuropathy in her limbs, fast vision deterioration.

I am writing to tell you what an incredible impact these methods had on my life! I have had type 2 diabetes for 27 years. For me, the worst part of this horrible disease is the severe pain I constantly get in my feet. The pain is so bad that I avoid standing and walking as much as possible. I've got to tell you that within the first month, my feet stopped hurting altogether and I can now walk totally pain free.

Believe it or not, I even danced at my niece's wedding last month, something I have not done in a many years. I've been following the book for six months now and my blood sugar is well within normal range. I feel great!

I recommend you use the Type 2 Diabetes Destroyer to naturally reverse your diabetes.

life style is one thing. if we eat more calories than we use by our daily work then the extra sugar and fat just stays in our blood and sugar or glucose increases inour blood.

If we walk or exercise physically to burn the energy and perspire, then sugsr in the blood goes down.Remember, also drink more water so body does not dehydrate.

for your mom best thing is to see a doctor, check the blood sugar every day and keep it 90 to 130.she might need diabetes medicine.control the amount of food intake your self.

when sugar is higher than above, other problems also pop up.

Source(s): look for sites where you can read about diabetes care. I answered because I am diabetic

Lots of things. Obviously sugar intake. Also carbs (bread, pasta, etc.), stress, obesity, lack of exercise. Sorry to hear about your mom, alzheimers is a horrible disease. Best of luck and enjoy the time you have.

Could be medication they gave her?

She could be eating without remembering to take insulin?

She could be less active than she used to be?

    Her insulin could be ineffective?

Talk to her endroconologist and who ever manages the alzheimers. They should be able to help.

    Good luck with your mother.
