Why do optometrists do so many tests?
It seems that optometrists are always ordering lots of tests and sending you to have pictures of your eyes done etc. On the other hand Ophthalmologists generally see you less often and don't order as many tests that you have to pay out so much cash for.
Are the Optometrists just out to rip you off?

There has to be a reason why they are asking for the tests. The only ones that I got the last time I went to an optometrist was the screening test for glaucoma and what strengh of lenses I needed.
Ophthalmologists are medical doctors trained in the specialty of the eye and its diseases. They do surgery and spend their time looking at cataracts, retinal separation and other diseases.
There is some overlap between the 2, but Optometrists are ones trained in dealing with fitting glasses. There is some overlap in screening for disorders like AV nicking and macular problems. They are not as apt to deal with the things that they discover.

They want you to pay for all their expensive equipment.
Seriously, optometrists check your eyesight, and ophthalmologists check everything that pertains to your vision.

in case they are sued, they have proof they checked everything.
