Do You Believe The Bible In The Literal or Spiritual Context.?

If you believe the bible, how is it that if Adam & Eve where the first two humans on Earth, why was Cain afraid of getting killed by the others?

*" My punishment is greater than I can bear. Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall slay me. And the LORD said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the LORD set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him. And Cain went out from the presence of the LORD, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden.”

So? who where these " Other people?

* Gen 4

Or is it possible that because the Bible was written in Aremeic that a great deal of it was inturpeted to fit the theory, and not vica versa???

Just some thoughts.

Update:

No Cosaxteacher, you lame ***... It was written in an old form of Hebrew, called, Aramaic

בְּרֵאשִׁית, בָּרָא אֱלֹהִים:,In the beginning God created

ֵת הַשָּׁמַיִם, וְאֵת הָאָרֶץ.:the heaven and the earth.

The Old Testiment is also known as parts of the Torah . Christianity is a result of traditions, and prophecy's of Judaism, not of Zeus, and Bonus Eventus lame-O...What kind of teacher are you anyway????

As for all you out there bashing me... Read carefully!... I am asking if it is sooo real, than why are there people that will kill Cain, and to those who are saying that God " just" wrote about the first two on Earth. Why is it so important to let it be know when He created Man, but not all that important to let us know when he made others in " their image"? It seems that they documented every event that God supposedly partook in, why not tell of these masses of people too???

" Adam and Eve were around for a very long time before they sampled the fruit. Before that time, they didn't grow old and die, that's what sin did, so they had many, many children, who went out into the world. Cain and Abel of course being the most well-know, because hey, the first murder and first victim. So of course Cain was afraid, he killed his own brother, he had a lot of other brothers and sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins, etc., who were probably pretty ticked off about that. So he's scared, doesn't want to be killed for his action, and God protects him, gives him a sign on his face to keep all his close, and long-lost relatives from killing him.

Course, this was in Hebrew, which also had a story about Adam's first wife, Lilith. Maybe some of those "others" were Lilith's kids? " Quote : Trenttroy

Nope! Lilith had not yet become pregnant when she was banished from Eden for not allowing Adam to mount her. She was then left with out a body for her soul, because she was so wanton ( slutty,) This is why she hated the children of Adam & Eve, and also why it is said that the incubus is Lilith.

And HEY SUZANNE... Get it straight... IT WAS WRITEN IN Aramaic... Ohh And I suppose Joshua aka Jesus Spoke in Latin too? Did you know that " Teacher " means Rabbi? Why do the apostles call him teacher? Because He was a Rabbi.... You started off good, but you opened you mouth and removed any doubt of your stuppidity.Do your research before!... This way everyone doesn't see just how stupid & presumptuios you really are.

The books of the Bible that make up the Old Testament were created and assembled over a long period of time. The oldest sections existed in oral form long before they were recorded; in some cases, multiple versions of stories were blended together to create the books we know today. The first five books of the Old Testament contain the oldest material, but the ancient stories were blended with more recent material as they moved from oral tradition to written document. The various threads were drawn together to form the Hebrew Bible in the ninth and tenth centuries AD. Translations into Greek began as early as the third century BC although a complete Greek Bible did not exist until much later.

Biblical scholars trace four different sources for the first five books of the Old Testament in the Hebrew Bible. The earliest of the four sources, known as the Yahwist or J, was first recorded about 950 BC. This material was blended with other material from a source known as the Elohist or E, first recorded a century or two later.

Some of it I believe literal, some I believe in a spiritual context, some I believe in a moral context.

You have to remember that just because the bible says something, doesn't mean that it is saying everything. Yes, God created Adam & Eve, but it doesn't say he then went and created more people after that.

Also, the Bible wasn't written in Aramaic. It was written in either Greek or Latin. That is one of the reasons the Catholic bible has more books than the Protestant bibles. When Martin Luther broke away from the Catholic Church, he wanted the bible to be based on what was written in the same language (either Greek or Latin, I don't remember exactly which) so books that were written in a different language were discarded.

Wow, you think you know what you are talking about, but you don't! Go do some studying! I've actually studied the origin of Biblical scripture, and I know it is in Greek and Latin.

Your first question: I believe in interpreting the Bible as literally as possible. However, there are some passages that are clearly meant to be taken symbolically.

The answer to your second and third questions:

The short answer is: Adam and Eve were the first people on earth, but they weren't the only people! They had plenty of children besides Cain and Abel! Cain's siblings and their children would have had plenty of opportunity to kill him.

Genesis explains that Adam and Eve's first children were Cain and Abel; after Abel was murdered, they had Seth. However, Gen. 5:4-5 goes on to clairify that "After he begot Seth, the days of Adam were eight hundred years; and he had sons and daughters. 5 So all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years; and he died."

Think of all the babies (and grand babies, etc) Adam and Eve would have after 800+ years!

Your fourth question: the Bible was written in Hebrew (Old Testament) and Greek (New Testament). It was not originally written in Latin, as at least one answer states. (It's known as the "Latin Vulgate" translation.) Generally speaking, the King James Version and New King James Version are thought to be the most accurate translations out there. However, the KJV is nearly incomprehensible to new Bible readers.

There are many (poor) interpretations and excuses for contradictions in the bible.

If you are trying to prove it's inaccuracy, that has already been done thousands of times over with more solid proof than what you've provided here.

If you're looking for a more serious answer.. a few of the possibilities are....

1.) What priests often refer to as "natives" -- or the first wave of non-jewish people God created on earth

2.) That the bible only focused on the important members of their lineage... and there may have been other siblings not mentioned

3.) "Evolution" -- that the 'others' were the evolved forms of mankind and adam/eve were the created form of mankind

    so on and so forth....

My advice is to make up your own mind. There is no difinitive answer. Infact, the most accurate answer i've been able to come up with is "The bible isn't factual." :)

The book of Genesis (see chapter 5) says that Adam and Eve had lots of sons and daughters. Cain was afraid of his brothers and sisters.

The Old Testament was written almost entirely in Hebrew. We do have very old manuscripts available for anybody to translate. And lots of people have published translations.

The Bible should be read and interpreted by its plain meaning. Some parts are obviously poetical or metaphoric, and some parts are literal.

Homo Sapiens were here, a long time before Adam. His body was hand made (less miraculous in this age), and his spirit was from the spirit of those hands.

Cain lived with, slept with and died with Homo Sapiens. That blood line lasted seven generations. Seth did the same. Seth's bloodline lasted at least for seventy generations of recorded history/oral tradition (until Jesus).

Apparently, those homos didn't like killers (ape does not kill ape is the general idea).

None of these people's (except for one nuclear family) decendents have survived to this day. They are a lost, silent race, who's only voices are the Bible and rare copies of stories, both of which were recorded thousands of years later from oral tradition.

Many people force incest into the plot of this ancient story. Why would people project so?

The issue is daughters. Often times in biblical texts females are not part of any genealogy listings. Adam and Eve could have had lots of daughters before Cain and Able and they wouldnt have been listed. Even if those daughters bore male children they would not be direct line descendants and therefore would not be listed. Just something to think about.

Have to remember, though that the creation story was written down quite some time after the event while most of the rest of the Bible was written down by the people directly involved. Difference between word of mouth and eye witness I suppose.

The Bible is both literal and mysterious in connotation. I however do not agree that it is fictitious because it is inspired by God; who made heaven & earth and does not lie.

That we do not understand some things does not negate their authenticity.

God is omniscient and we know in part. If I were you, I would obey the Bible and receive eternal life through Jesus Christ so I can ask God for explanation of things I do not know when I get to heaven.
