Binary long division is actually pretty easy

    1011 < the result

    101 ) 111010

    101__ < 1st operation

    10010

    000__ < shift, 2nd operation

    10010

    101__

    1000 < shift, 3rd operation

    101__

    11 <- remainder

Except my answer doesn't line up the way I composed it.

One way to do division (and there may be others), is to repeatedly subtract, counting the subtractions. When the result goes negative, don't count the final subtraction, but put it back and shift the register, subtract repeatedly......

There are other algortithms but that is one of the simplest to understand.
