I have 2 crimson maples that I planted 2 years ago and I can't seem to get to grow, any suggestions?

I live in Montana.

    If they are Japanese Maples(Acer palmatum), give them time. They are slow growers. They do put on their leaves in Spring, yes? Give them some fertilizer any time between Apr-Oct. Always read the directions. I have one in a pot(Crimson Queen) that I've had for 15 years. It is only 4 feet tall and probably grows about 2 inches a year(pretty much just summer).
