What can my mother do for leg pain from shingles? She says it is really bad.?

She had shingles around three months ago and now her legs hurt. She is also having trouble standing. Her legs just seem to give out on her, she says.

Update:

Thanks. She did see her doctor and went to the ER but nothing seems to help.

I will have her ask about the B-12 shots.

Update 2:

I took her to a different doctor yesterday and he prescribed Lyrica. Thanks.

Have her ask her doctor about a medicine called Lyrica. It works well in a lot of people with neuropathic pain (such as shingles).

Hey there, this is something that a doctor will have to answer. I suggest making her an appoitment with one. In the meantime, keep the leg propped up and comfortable on top of pillows. To help her walk, maybe get a walker, or maybe a hove-round scooter for longer distances.

She should ask the doctor to give her a vitamin B12 shots. He will not offer this, but it shouldn't be a problem to do it at your request. A member of my family had shingles and, after a series of B12 shots, it was taken care of.
