Why is it that after four years of little to no contact and a child abuse conviction bio mom gets visits ?

I am raising a child that hasnt seen his mother for basically four years. She has had four years to party and now takes us to court for visitation rights. She has a conviction for child abuse and history of instability. She now gets supervised visits with a six year old child who doesnt know her. This child also has alot of special needs. How will we explain this to him? Why does it seem that the mother has all the rights??

because our "great" justice system is seriously screwed up!

for some reason the higher ups think that it's in the child's best interest to be reunited or keep contact w/ the biological parents when possible. it's really sad. if the child is happy and healthy w/ you, and has no interest in being w/ his "egg-donor" then it should be his choice, not hers!

It's the system. They certainly do not look out for the child's best interest. My daughter has her husbands 2 grandkids and their half sister plus the oldest one(17) has a baby. The mother is supposed to have supervised visitation but she just shows up whenever she pleases. My daughter has complained ot the case worker and it doesn't do any good. This is about the 4th time these kids have been taken from the mother and the system just keeps giving them back. Mom is also on drugs and a party girl.

Because she is the mother. We should live in a country where the main goal is always reunification assuming the mother has made the necessary steps to take back control of her life. She will always be the child's mother and she needs to be held in a positive light for the sake of the child. I would whole heartedly support this and have a commitement to making sure that the child is always the number one priority even if it's hard on you.

Hey I am raising 4 kids in the same situation. My husbands ex-wife abused and neglected the kids for 4 years. When he finally left her, she said to take the brats and bury them. But, she gets supervised visitation with them. I don't know what is wrong with the system when abused animals get more protection thatn children!!!
