On tax free weekend including computer purchases, can a national chain charge me tax on an internet purchase?

should not if the location is in the tax free area but what can you do this is programed into their computers and tax free weekend is not NOTE NOT TAX FREE as you mentioned if they have an instate location must charge taxes law in MOST states

There is no national tax free weekend. And as far as I know none of the states are stopping their tax collections either. This is something that a particular company is promoting. They will have to pay the tax even if they aren't collecting it from you. Basically, this is a sales gimmick. They could have just as easily said that all purchases are X percent off on a certain day. And they are charging you the tax (i.e. full price) because they are more interested in generating foot traffic into their stores. Again, there is no real sales tax exclusion. It's just a sale and it is apparently only valid within the stores themselves.

Missouri and Iowa both have tax-free weekends, but they're set up by the state's Department of Revenue (I think). Then each city has the option to take part or not, and there are restrictions as far as what items apply (for example, school supplies and back-to-school clothes) and the dollar amount. Missouri's is actually taking place this weekend. As far as I know, you have to purchase from the actual store.

Return the internet purchase and get your money back. Then go to the store and buy a computer. Problem solved!
