Let me see. How about this!!!
A motor is a machine that converts some form of energy into mechanical energy. In some contexts, the word motor refers specifically to an internal combustion engine.
An engine is something that produces an effect from a given input. The origin of engineering was the working of engines. There is an overlap in English between two meanings of the word "engineer": 'those who operate engines' and 'those who design and construct new items'.

a motor is what you use to start an engine there is some interchangeability here especially when dealing with a compounded situation as the starter motor is bad on the six cylinder chevy [pony/donkey] motor that is used to start the diesel engine. motor refers to 1st motion of any device. a vacuum cleaner or blender has a motor, any thing that requires starting but will run after being started without further use of the first motion device is an engine unless it becomes the first motion device for something else, usually larger.

A motor is powered by electricity and an engine runs on fuel of some sort, although engines usually need some form of electricity or "spark" to get the fuel burning to run.

A motor specifically refers to an electric motor--like the one found inside a car's starter, or the more complex motor used in Toyota's Prius hybrid. A motor reaches its total potential torque instantly by using electrical current to power a series of electro-magnets. In a starter motor, an armature is spun by the repellant electromagnetic fields, producing torque.
An engine relies on the combustion of a fuel source to produce mechanical energy; the mechanical energy can then be converted into electricity. Its full torque can only be reached at a certain RPM range, and in its simplest form it relies on electricity to run only as far as the ignition system and starter.

electric motor or gasoline engine. Terminology dates back to before 17 century steam engines then late 18 century atmospheric natural gas engine then 19 century automotive engine. That good enough. The term Motor is often used incorrectly. Motor has electrical rotors and electrical fields to cause rotation

A motor is powered by electricity either ac or dc power.
An engine is powered by a fuel source and can be a 4 stroke or a 2 stroke and finally a rotary engine.
Hope this answers the question well enough

I think a motor is run by electricity. A engine is run by a fuel, thus calling it an internal combustion engine.

well i been at it for 35 years,,so join the club,,now you tell me what is the difference between my 1971 dodge challenger 340 6-pack,,is and my 1970 challenger 426 hemi,, is, when you answer this question,,you have answered your own question,,i think this is fair,,don't you,,to me this is the differencee in an engine,,and a motor.,,all truth aside of this,,the differenc is a motor is driven by electricity,,and a engine is power by fuel,,i think we all knew that.
