Hypothetical supposition: Immortality is achieved through biogenetics and related tech. What pitfalls?

Ground rules: Immortality through a "magic pill" system. No follow-ups or boosters needed. Immortality, in this context, shall mean young and healthy (not old or diseased). Many people would not choose the pill because they fear the uncertainty of life more than the fear the finality of death. Why choose to avoid the pill otherwise? What horrid evils will befall this world as immortal people cause the population to explode and the environment to fall into ruin... yada yada. Doom and gloom sayers, this is your chance to list the worst here. Create your hell on Earth. 3, 2, 1..start!

Update:

to ace_2006: yes, stupidity like yours will indeed continue unabated. nice answer jackass.

Update 2:

to tranquil: excellent points. certainly worthy considerations to take into account as science moves us toward that brave new world. life in prison will necessarily changes, as such sentences would clearly be cruel and unusual in light of the technology. They would surely be overturned in favor of rehabilitation, counceling, monitoring, and other programs to remove such "lifers" as burdens on social resources. Naturally, the fear of initial backlash by having such persons put to death would be a hysteria that the bureaucratic mechanisms of the state should effectively resist until properly empaneled juries can decide such outcomes (not to mention Consititutional issues of double jeopardy, etc...).

Resource managment, better power delivery, and other advances in science might not create the cesspool future that many have predicted since the industrial revolution. perhaps gloom and doom will not come to pass and the future may be NICE? ever think of that, cause its today...

    Hahahaha!

Not a doom and gloom sayer but here goes...

...an immortal life will deplete our resources. It will be a very crowded world, and for those incarcerated for life? Absolute wretchedness.
