How dirty and drawn on can a 5 dollar bill be until it's not spendable?
Basically to make a long story short -- i'm asking because I have a 5 dollar bill that is colored on with marker almost all over it and some words are written on it. I don't want to have to just throw it away not knowing if it's spendable or not.
I even put it in hot water to see if the it would wash away. I'm not sure if the markers were permanent or not either.

as long as it is identifiable it is legal tender... but a bank will pull it out of circulation and send it in for destruction.
