How can I remove the default IE links for new Windows XP users?
I'm trying to customize the links bar in Internet Explorer for new users. I'd like to add several of my own links, which I have done by adding the URL shortcuts to two directories.
%system root%/Documents and Settings/All Users
%system root%/Documents and Settings/Default User
Problem is, when a new users logs on, the default IE6 links (Customize Links, Free Hotmail, Windows Marketplace & Windows Media) are imported also -- I do not want these URLs in the new users' Links. I don't know where they're coming from. I'm guessing they're embedded in the registry somewhere, but I haven't been able to find them.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Apparently I need to clarify. I know how to remove the links once the user's profile has been created -- I just don't want them to show up in the first place. While I may know how to remove the worthless links, the users at my office will not know how to... and profile to profile on each PC in my office would be a very, very, very lengthy process.
Where does Windows copy the default links from when a new user logs onto the PC?
Answered my own question!
Turns out, the Windows Marketplace link comes from a registry key. I deleted the key, and new users no longer get the Windows Marketplace link.
To get rid of the other links, I had to repackage Internet Explorer using IEAK, and then reinstall Internet Explorer.

Right click on the link on the links bar and choose delete.
You can add links to the link bar by visiting the site, putting the cursor over the icon in the address bar, holding down the left mouse button and dragging the address to the links bar and dropping it there.

Windows ME has very deficient reminiscence leadership. It's truthfully much less steady than 98SE. Also you'll now not be ready so as to add greater than 512MB to any Win9x with out strolling into disorders so your choices are beautiful confined so far as handy efficiency enhancements pass. If your processor is over 500MHz, and you have got a minimum of 128MB of RAM you must be ready to place Windows 2000 on there and it must paintings OK. You too can replace your PC protection with Windows 2000 nonetheless, in contrast to ME that is out of help and is not secure for web use anymore. Current protection techniques comparable to Norton 360 is not going to even run on Windows ME so in case your approach is simply too sluggish to place 2000 or XP on, then it is valued at doing a whole improve.
