That was so funny!! And such a keen insight. I had never thought of that reason. You are most likely correct. LOL

I come to the conclusion that some people just do not think to use it. Then, on the other hand, you might be right in that they can't pick the right one in the list. I would like to think it is the first.

Here is just a thought -- maybe they are so very young that they haven't past the first grade, and they do not know completely how to spell correctly a word using over 3 or 4 letters. Hopefully, it isn't that bad. I would like to give some people the benefit of the doubt and just, again, consider that they just don't use spell check.

This is like instant messaging. On the computer they type short cut words. I wish they would be just a little more correct in the grammar. Sometimes its hard to read exactly what they are saying. But as long as they type full words and sentences with periods, it doesn't bother me too much. They may be a little lazy or something. I usually type like I'm writing something that a teacher will see or my mom would read. But if I get tired of typing, I just stop caring about having perfect grammar.

Spell check doesn't catch everything. Things can be spelled correctly but just be in the wrong place. Sometimes, I accidentally type the wrong form the the word, like in the last question I answered, I typed "terribly" instead of "terrible."

Sometimes the spell check cannot get a word correctly and sometimes spell check will not open at all its a rare error I guess. Other then that I do not know why people do not use it.

Perhaps. I think a more common reason is the spell checker simply not having a good enough database of words.

I speak as a science student who commonly has those red lines underneath words I know are spelt correctly in Microsoft word...

That might be it.. or it could be that they just dont care enough about it to at least give off the perception of having some kind of smarts. I've always been taught.. if you can't spell it don't use it or look it up.

I believe we want to hurry and get an answer posted in the top five or to be the first to answer. People don't read generally look at answers on the second page. What I do sometimes is go back and edit later.

Maybe they type too fast and don't realize the misspelled word, or they don't recognize the fact they spelled anything wrong.

HAHA.. perhaps.. or maybe it's just because they are too lazy to move the mouse and click SPELL CHECK..
