Relief of hand pain?
The back of my hand between the wrist and my knuckles hurst after typeing for awhile. Arthritis? It doesn't seem to be carpal tunnel. I have had an electromyelogram and it was negative for Carpal Tunnel. When I sleep, I wake up with my hand bent at 90 degrees sometimes. Other than a splint at night, any ideas?

Have you tried using a wrist support when you type? I know that you said that your EMG was negative for carpal tunnel but that is exactly what it sounds like. I have had carpal tunnel (not severe) since I was only 25 and your symptoms sound just like me. When my wrist is bothering me I do use the splint. Maybe you need a second opinion??

I understand that the tests said your hand was negative for carpal tunnel, but it sounds so much like it and I have carpal tunnel. When my hand gets real bad or numb, I put it straight down by my side and shake it real hard. Sometimes I hold it out by my side and flex all the muscles in my hand all the way up to my shoulder. Sometimes that helps the pain. Otherwise, I wear a wrist brace whenever I am on the computer or especially when I write. It could be arthritis, but it really doesn't sound like it to me. I'm not a doctor, so I don't know what else it could be. If it continues to be a bother, I would go back to the doctor until they can find a diagnosis. Maybe they can give you some type of muscle relaxer or even some stretching exercises for it. I would definitely wear a brace, especially at night. Sounds like you have a real problem with it when you sleep. Best of luck to you!

Your keeping your hand in one position too long during the day start doing some hand exercises in between typing to loosen up those muscles also you mite try soaking your hand in as hot a water in the eve till water cools, you could even get one of those foot massagers an just sit it on a table beside your chair and put some Epsom salts in and soak, and message with warmed lotion or oil.
