meaning of -5 on a bone density test for spine?

Person who has osteoporosis, has had a spinal surgery, her bone density tests for the spine came back -5. Hip a -2. I do not know what this means. Can anyone help?

    It means what you already know about her, that she has osteoporosis.

    Her family doctor can prescribe drugs that can help. But this will take much more than just taking calcium.
