Fat Burn vs Cardio Settings on Elliptical?

I'm exercising to lose weight/fat, and I was wondering what is the best approach to using the elliptical machine at my gym? I can devote 30 minutes 5 days a week. I've been using the fat burn program, but I'm wondering if I should be using the cardio program instead? Also - the target heart rates for each program are different - low for fat burn, and high for cardio. Since I'm 45, what is the best target heart rate for burning fat?

    I was told by my gym guy that that is old information when they made those settings on the Eliptical. What matters most is that you keep moving and keep your heart rate within a normal range for you. Work so that you make it all the way to the end of the time you set, and maybe push yourself a little harder by some reseistence (levels). It's OK if your heart rate goes into the "cardio range" on that little display. You are still going to burn fat no matter what.

    I found the book to be very informative and easy to read.

    I've lost 17 pounds in 12 days, I'm just concerned that I'm losing too much weight, too quickly. I will admit I haven't followed the guide exactly. I'm not sticking perfectly to the listed foods and meal plans (but mostly) and doing very little exercise, but the weight keeps flying off.

    It clearly works and if I'd followed it exactly I think it would scare the living daylights out of me because of the amount that I'd lose. So thanks again for the information. I've never purchased anything like this before because they are usually full of trash, but 3WD has been a pleasant surprise.
