I have one female cat aged 2. Will it be ok to get another kitten?
How do I Introduce my cat to a new kitten? Should I get another female? I have heard the males, even when fixed, might hump her!
Thanks all :)

It's really hard to tell you whether a female or male would be best...it all depends on the personality of the cat.
We have four cats....three females and a male.
Two of the females came together...they are Sisters so they've always gotten along...they have a spat now and then...but don't all Sisters?...LOL
I rescued the third female from the middle of a busy street and she was excepted into the family by the Sisters with no problem.
Brought in the male who was a stray and the crap hit the fan...they hated the sight of him...poor little guy.
The Sisters still aren't best friends with him, but he and the other female get along great.
As for how to introduce a new cat to the resident cat...this is how we've always done it and it works like a charm.
SLOW...is the key.
But the new cat/kitten in a room by itself with food, water, litterbox, toys and a bed.
Let new kitty out of the room to interact with resident kitty for about an hour the first day...two hours the second day and so on.
Don't leave them unattened together until you're sure they get along...you don't want World War Three to break out.
Get two towels...rub one all over new kitty and rub the other on resident kitty...then give them each others towels.
That will help them get used to the smell of each other.
Last tip, this one comes from my Vet and it works...put a drop of vanilla on the base of each kitties tail and between each kitties shoulder blades...that way they smell alike.
Good luck, I hope everything works out for you and furkids!

Male cats can try to hump a calling female but if you have her speyed that won't be an issue. He will only do it if she is in heat.
Go to the link below, and read on cat to cat introductions. Many different combinations can work, it all comes down to the individual cats.
Generally a kitten is more easily accepted and seen as less of a threat than an older cat. A 16 week old kitten will know not to engage an adult cat, they're smart and know they will get their butts kicked so they will stay out of the way.

I'm gonna assume that you have not lived with an unspayed female cat for two years! Female cats are usually "head of household" and don't take readily to another female, kitten or not. It is not necessarily true as it does depend on the personality of both cats.
Another resource is www.littlebigcat.com and Dr. Jean Hovfe's article titled "Cat to Cat Introductions".
Pick the kitten you want and be prepared to take time for the adjustment to be made. Many people have more than one cat in their homes and you can be successful with it.
