Does anyone know anything about CISCO Routers?
I have a Cisco 1721 router that I don't know how to program. Can anyone direct me the right way?

The Cisco 1721 is a full function router with built in VPN. You must use IOS (the Cisco operating system) to configure this device. If you cannot reach it via the network (telnet), you must connect to the console port and use hyperterm or something similar to configure it. This model went end-of-service last year. If you are not familiar with using IOS or hyperterm, you are better off finding someone who can configure it for you.

There is a standard way of accessing your router's options that will allow you to program it to your like.
1) Put your routers IP address as a url in a web browser. If you do not know what the IP address is then you can follow the steps outlined below
2) Go to Start --> run --> type "cmd" --> when the command prompt opens up type "netstat -r" You will see a bunch of words and numbers printed out; close to the bottom you will see "Default Gateway:" followed by some numbers.
3) Place those numbers into the url bar in your web browser
4) You will be prompted for a username and password which are typically "admin" and "admin" if no one else has changed them.
5) If someone has already changed the login, you can locate the reset button on the side of the router and hold that in for about 15-30 seconds which will reset everything and the username and password should go back to "admin" and "admin"
6) Now you should have full access to your router's options.

1. Turn off router
2. Get a console cable and plug into your computers COM port
3. Start > Programs > Accessories > Communications > HyperTerminal
4. Create the appropriate connection
5. Turn on the router and wait for it all to load
5. type enable to begin
Wait for response after each Enter key. If it displays things in your way while you are typing keep typing as if nothing happened.

Since CISCO systems now owns Linksys a good chunk of their products are linksys. If you want to log into a router go to the URL bar in either IE or whatever and type. 192.168.1.1 if that doesn't work try 192.168.0.1. It will then forward you to a screen asking for a login. The default user name and password for all linksys products is
user: admin
pw: admin
If it already has a password that is different, then reset your router on the back and login then set it up.
Or if you have your setup CD that came with the unit it will help you set it up.
