Why do people use the term "Sweating Like A Pig"?

Since pigs don't sweat.

It's just another foolish misconception regarding pigs. "Sweating like a pig" is a derogatory comment, meaning one is sweating heavily and disgustingly. Pigs do not sweat, and they have no body odor. They have a few sweat glands on the edge of their snouts. So, I guess if your nose is sweating delicate little droplets, you are indeed sweating like a pig.

When people see pigs wallowing in the mud, it's not because they enjoy being dirty, ( although some do!) it's just that the mud cools them down and keeps flying pests away.

Pig manure, when they are fed a proper diet of meat-free pellets, does not have a disagreeable odor. Of course, when a lot of pigs are penned together, such as in factory farms, they are going to smell. Given the choice, they are extremely fastidious in their elimination habits.

Some pigs, ( and I'm sure this will elicit the usual "breakfast" jokes,) even have a pleasant, maple syrup smell.

Pigs have a totally undeserved bad rap.

Interesting. I've heard the term "Sweating like a horse" used many times, but never a pig. The only sweat glands that a pig has is located on it's snout. The reason that a pig will wallow in the mud is because of it's inability to cool off and the mud also protects their skin from insect bites and the harsh sun.

In reality, pigs are fourth in intelligence. Man, Ape, Dolphin, Pig.. In that order. They are very clean (unless given no choices), have no odor, don't shed and make excellent pets. :)

How do I know this? I have four pet pigs who share my home with me.

Btw, I suspect the answer to the question would be related to the sad misconception that pigs are dirty and smell.

And you people who think pigs are disgusting have no knowledge of pigs in the wild. Domestication and methods of raising pigs make them perceived to be " dirty ". It is merely religious ignorance to say the meat of a pig is unpalatable.

no idea. but it is an expression. they say they're sweating like a pig because they are really sweating a lot. mayb they say they are sweating like a pig because pigs stink. mayb they're saying the smell of their sweat is like that of a pig.

There are a lot of mistaken sayings; some come from lack of knowledge, some come simply from laziness of language.
