Should I consider a 64 bit version of Windows for my 64 bit processor?

I am building a new computer with a 64 bit processor (AMD) and I am trying to decide if I should purchase a standard (32 bit) version of Windows XP or a 64 bit version. I don't feel like Vista is an option at this time (I'm waiting until they work some of the security bugs out) but when I'm ready I need to decide between a 32 or 64 bit version of that also.

What are the pros and cons of a 64 bit operating system?

YES! Running a 64-bit Operating System will be more advantageous to you, you'll get a heck of a lot more out of your computer. As for upgrading to Vista, I have done so already, the only major problem I've found so far is print drivers; I have a few troubles with them, but, other than that, I haven't found any problems with Vista. I haven't seen any problems with security. You might find it useful, if you do upgrade, to set up your computer for a dual-boot configuration between Vista and XP. Go to http://www.microsoft.com/ for help on that.

Very little software will support 64 bit Vista, and it don't look like it will improve in the near future.

No, abode windows 7 is offered in the two 32-bit and sixty 4-bit variations. in case you get a working laptop or computing gadget with 6gb or extra of RAM put in, then it is going to just about actually contain sixty 4-bit Win7 on account it truly is had to verify that added reminiscence. yet with 4gb or much less, you will ought to examine the version. All 32-bit working structures can in simple terms comprehend 4gb of reminiscence maximum. reward of 32-bit: extra suitable compatibility with older abode windows utility, extra drivers available. reward of sixty 4-bit: Freedom from 4gb shrink, slightly swifter
