i had a tub surround installed and along the bottom where it should meet the tub there is a gap anywhere from?

1/4 inch to about 1 inch. any suggestions? It is caulked, but im afraid the water will still get in behind there.

As long as caulking is in good shape (not allowing leakage) it should be fine. There's a lip on the tub that prevents the water from running behind the wall, provided the tub surround is lower than the lip. 1" space seems wide though. Perhaps the person who installed it should provide you with assurance that he knew what he was doing and that he will honour warranty if and wehn needed.

My question for you is, is your tub level? Is the floor uneven? It shouldn't be doing that if it is level.

Call whoever installed it and tell them to come and do it RIGHT!!!
