Do ac to dc adapters draw current if nothing is plugged into them drawing current?
I'm a guitarist with a ton of these things plugged in and wondered if there's wear on the units if they are plugged in and not being used.

Yes, but as the energy generated in the primary coil is not transferred to the secondary coil (it is an open circuit under such conditions), it actually fights current flow in the primary, thus reducing consumption to very little. Easy test: Feel a plugged in and connected adapter that has been working for several hours. It should be warm. Unplug the load, but leave the adapter in. The next day it should feel quite cool.
All this in layman's terms, of course! :-)
