Minimum Wage?

Where is the minimum wage increase?

The ever rising cost of gasoline not to mention liability insurance and general automobile maintaince, how is the individual on the current minimum wage suppose to make it?

Are they suppose to be able to maintain a car,buy groceries, clothe themselves and their children, furnish their homes and have a little extra left to save?

Fortunately my home is paid for such as it is but on $8.00hr I don't dare miss a day of work or I can't make a living.(My job has other benefits that I will realize upon retirement.) Infact I work all of the overtime I can get in order to take up the slack.

The government is going to increase the minimum to $7.00hr but by the time it takes effect at this rate it will then take more than that to make a living.

Are we just going to have to work 2 jobs to support a home we won't be able to spend much time in?

If the government is trying to squeeze out the little man, they are certainly going about it in the right way.

The moment they increase the minimum wage, prices jump in excess of that increase or even before hand! To have an increase without price controls is meaningless! You can't permit one without the other! People are definitely losing ground. Wages have been artificially suppressed for more than a decade! Even when there were labor shortages, wages failed to increase! Your government thinks they can continue to get away with this activity, but for how long before even they have to release their controls and stop forcing people to work for nothing?

"...minimum wage workers are almost exclusively teenagers..."

That is a completely false statement. Many many service corporations use that low wage in employees face all the time. Age has nothing to do it. I would like to make an example of a big time Corporation. I'm talking about the number one employer in the world barely pays their basic employees above min wage. Known as Walmart Stores Corp.. If the corporation known for having the most employees in the world is not willing to pay a working person above min wage, then why would anyone else? That is why some people stuck in the loop hole have more than one job to help their kids and themselves just to live a basic life.

    Fact.

Don't get me going on how much China's citizens get paid by Walmart.

Well, first off, you're not making minimum wage, so really, I see no reason for you to be fretting about it not raising yet.

Second, minimum wage workers are almost exclusively teenagers, who live at home with parents. So they don't have to worry about feeding and clothing children, buying a house, etc.

And finally, when the minimum wage goes up, prices go up with it. Companies now have added costs, and they pass them along to consumers (they need to make a buck as well, after all). Therefore, raising minimum wage doesn't help the minimum wage earner as prices shoot up too. What it DOES do, is screw over everyone else who is not guaranteed a raise. My mother, for example, makes 8.50 an hour. Not great, but not bad. She's not getting a raise. But prices are going up. So the min. wage increase hurts her.

Raising the minimum wage is never a good thing.

The minimum wage was never meant to be a "Living Wage"! Its a starting salary that should be determined by the "Market" and not lawmakers. If your making the minimum wage I would encourage you to work hard, further your education, and apply for different jobs, its called hard work. Its the American way. :)

PS. I see your profile says you where a nurse, so seems like you did get an education, and my bet is, you made more than the minimum wage. Hmmm nurses make minimum?
