I like both, but according to me Opera is better than Firefox mainly because Opera has an excellent and efficient management of its cache without tweaking any setting. Opera's back and forward browsing is awesome, much better than firefox.
Also Firefox takes up too much memory...not to mention many of the extensions pose a memory leak issue.Problematic extensions: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Problematic_extensions
i'm glad firefox has been fixing its memory leaks in newer builds.
I agree firefox's extensions make it look cool, but Opera has so much stuff intrinsically built in , like fraud protection, for this you need the WOT extension in firefox, then there's block content feature in Opera..for this you need the adblock plus extension in firefox . So all these extensions can bog down firefox...and many of these extensions got memory leak bugs. Also Opera's wand is better than firefox's password manager. To auto fill in the forms in firefox you need yet another extension! Not to mention, Opera's notes feature comes in very handy. can just copy some stuff to note and access the web page later through notes. Also sometimes while writing long answers here on yahoo, i copy the answer to notes so that i know my long answer is protected and 'saved' in case if i lose the answer i'm writing for whatever reason i can retrieve it from the notes panel(Ctrl+shift+6)
Besides, the stuff intrinsically built in, Opera has got widgets and user javascripts to add additional functionality into it. If i liked the xultris/tetris extension in firefox to have some fun while i'm browsing...Opera's circular tetris widget is also good.
I also like the mouse gestures in Opera...and also the speed dial feature...i love speed dial. Of course there are also extensions in firefox for the mouse gesture functionality. As far as speed dial goes, i believe the opera like speed dial extension is also already out for firefox.
Moreover, i love the draggable buttons in Opera...i can drag whatever buttons i need onto my toolbars and status bar from here: http://operawiki.info/CustomButtons . It saves me from installing different extensions in firefox that add buttons onto the toolbars to do a specific job.
Firefox and Opera both offer wonderful features...its just a matter of how much you are able to fine tune and tweak it according to your liking. The more you are able to tweak and customize either Firefox or Opera to your liking, the more you'll like the particular browser better.
And we know, both Firefox and Opera offer extensive customizations!!!
Finally, here's something firefox 'fanboys' should check out...i hope it gets their heads straight

Opera. A lot of the bad stuff you hear about Opera comes from people who used it a long time ago and haven't seen it since (this was when it had that annoying Google ad banner at the top). But Opera went free over 2 years ago, so the ad banner doesn't exist anymore.
I like Firefox, too; but to get all the same functions in Firefox that come in a barebones Opera browser, you'd have to add like 13-14 extensions (and Opera still has a smaller installer size). BTW, Opera's widgets aren't meant to be the same thing as extensions.
A lot of the webpage rendering problems that Opera used to see haven't been around anymore for a long time, but sometimes you still see webpages that were written by some lazy webmasters. Opera can actually mask itself as Firefox, IE, or even Netscape for each page, and it seems to work pretty well.
That also reminds me: you can set up different options for each individual webpage: you can block ads, mask your browser ID, change how Opera handles javascript, and more. You can have different values for each page.
Popular belief says that you can't configure Opera but this is actually false. Opera CAN be configured, but it's done by changing the "ini" files; that's not as pretty or convenient as Firefox, but it's pretty easy. For example, I completely removed my menu bar from the top so I could have more screen space; if I want my "Files" menu or my bookmarks, all I have to do now is right-click anywhere on the screen.
Also, a lot of stuff that is now standard on modern browsers (like tabs for example) started on Opera first. Not a lot of people know that.
There's a lot more reasons I think Opera is technically superior but then I would just be nitpicking. And Firefox really is not that bad, not at all (WAAY better than IE).

Firefox and Opera are both good browsers. They are different in visual style and somewhat different in style of operation, so it is just a question of taste.
Firefox seems to me to be much more customizable and it has been my experience that Opera has some plug-in issues, although they might have solved that by now. I have it installed, along with Firefox, which is what I use. I only use IE when there seems to be a "browser compatibility" problem, and there haven't been any, really. Used to be a site here and there that was written only for IE, but I haven't run into any like that in a long time. And Firefox has a rightclick menu item called "display this page in IE" and IE comes up....
I just like the way Firefox feels and looks.

They are both good browsers. I like Firefox because of it's usability and customization. I like Opera for the same reasons. The only thing that makes me like Opera better is it's new SpeedDial function. I used to love Firefox. But I switched just recently.

firefox. I've used opera before and I thought it was too similar to IE. Or it used the same cookies or something like that...the one I was using had ads too I think which was odd. But it's been some time ago.

I prefer Firefox because of the add-ins available improve the browser function to make it superior to Opera.
Opera is safer and faster. For simple browsing it is very good. It has a lot of features built in such as ad blocker, pop-up blocker, password keeper, etc.
Opera fails on its version of add-ins, called Widgets. There isn't a Google or Yahoo toolbar available. Widgets consist of useless games, calculators, clocks, etc ; nothing to do with improving the functionality of the browser.

To be fairly sincere it comes right down to choice. I recognize a number of men and women who use each. Chrome due to the fact that it has a quicker begin time, and allegedly a quicker web page-load time. Firefox for the components and customization. Also on a science headquartered detail. Firefox: For tabbing firefox makes use of multi-threading as a sort of walking more than one tabs. What this implies is firefox handiest demands to run one firefox to open more than one tabs. Chrome: Chrome makes use of forking as it is process of tabbing. This essentially way each and every new tab is a brand new replica of chrome. The final result? If firefox has a web page that factors it to crash, all of firefox crashes. However firefox can repair tabs beautiful effectually. If Chrome has a web page that crashes, handiest the little one-procedure of Chrome dies, aka simply that window of Chrome. The reply? They're each quality browsers for his or her possess explanations. Honestly it would be beautiful difficult to have one excellent browser.
