Anybody else watch the "New Seven Wonders" on TV?

It was embarrassing. So embarrassing that no organisation should ever consider putting anything on in Portugal again, that's for sure! The mikes didn't work (to the extent that Hilary Swank walked off stage in the first ten minutes and didn't return), the cue prompter didn't work, one of the main guests simply didn't turn up and Ben Kingsley had to read somebody else's prepared speech, they had Jose Carreras lip-synching (badly) on two numbers, the home-grown "entertainment" was just awful and amateurish, and in the end, the result was disappointing, whereby it was so obvious that 50 million people in Latin America voted for Christ the Redeemer and Chichen Itza, and the more worthy Great Pyramids, Angkor Wat and Timbuktu didn't make the list.

A complete and total joke. No wonder UNESCO disassociated itself with the whole affair.

I had to watch it on an Indian satellite channel as the major European and American news channels refused to carry it. No wonder (forgive the pun!).

Update:

Yes, and most of the audience booed when the Statue of Liberty was mentioned, which was disgusting. From the point of view as a "wonder", Lady Liberty is more of an engineering feat than Christ the Redeemer, the Eiffel Tower and many of the other structures, as she had to be constructed in the middle of a deep water harbour. She certainly is an iconic symbol, much more than that castle in Germany, the temple in Japan, the Sydney Opera House or even the Alhambra in Granada.

Update 2:

I think Petra deserved to be one of the winners because it is an ancient engineering marvel. Do you seriously think that only Jordanians voted for Petra? It is world renowned and visited by millions. It is also not a site with religious overtones, which is much more in keeping with the whole spirit of the exercise. In my mind, it should be about human architectural and engineering achievements, not religion. Religion has managed to f*ck up the whole world already.

I thought Jennifer Lopez was amazing, it was lovely to see Ben Kingsley, and I wasn't surprised the Statue of Liberty got the reception it did. A lot of countries now perceive America as a bully and it certainly was good news to me that it didn't become one of the wonders of the world.

In fact it wasn't that long ago on here someone actually believed it already was one.

The only thing that worried me was knowing the McCanns were in Lisbon. I truly thought they might be declared as one of the new seven wonders

I watched it and thought the two main actors were very good. Wilfred Bramble came across as lonely and not being able to come to terms with his gender while Harry H Corbett came across as a bit of a big head. Don't know if either were true, but the programme was very interesting. It was also sad that they couldn't get any more work apart from Steptoe and Son.

listen there were some problems in the show that's OK. it always happens it's may be their first time that they will from learn from ;but about the results according to your own point of view how can you explain PETRA'S wining although it's population is less than 5.6 million ?

and why can't we give ourselves the chance to be union and to celebrate what our grands did?

and plz. keep in mind that the ancient wonders are not touched by having new ones!!!!!!!!!!!

That must've been "interesting". When I read that many people in the audience jeered when the Statue of Liberty was shown, I thought this is for the birds.

I always wanted any of the "wonders" to be natural, not man-made.
