what is the definition of Catholic?

not, what is the religion. I know what that is.. but the meaning behind the actual word.. does anybody know? is it based off of something in latin?

    "Catholic" means "universal."

    [14th century. Via Latin< Greek katholikos "universal" < katholou "in general" < kata "in regard to" + holos "whole"]
