For History people....?

What is your favorite historical epic or epics? I have such hard time trying to get it down to just one. My favorites are:

Schindler's List

The Last Emperor

Gandhi

The Longest Day

Tora, Tora, Tora

What are your favorite(s)?

These are great movies, don't get me wrong. I show Tora!Tora!Tora! to my students every December 7 when school is in session. I am surprised that Doctor Zhivago is not on your list - it is a sweeping epic of Russian history. Others for your consideration:

    The Song of Bernadette

    Ben-Hur

    Quo Vadis

    Dances with Wolves

    Amadeus

Granted, some of these are part fiction, but movies like Amadeus spurred a whole new interest in Mozart. Even though I am not a big Cruise fan, the Last Samurai was pretty darn good, considering.

I understand your dilemma - it is rather a pleasant one to be in, having to make choices about good movies.
