scenic alternator belt shredded, can car be started?
hi was driving to work this morning when battery light came on and lost power steering. having looked under the bonnet the alternator belt has shredded. i've removed all the bits of belt and want to know if i'll be able to get the car started or not.

Had the same problem with a renault van - it should start and run but you'll have no power steering and the battery won't last too long! Best to get it staight to a garage!

You might be able to get it started, but without the alternator charging your cars gonna die soon. A good old trick for that situation is pantyhose! You gotta wife? She got panyhose? Just tie some pantyhose around there as tight as you can and that ill get you to where ever you need to go. obviously put a new belt on asap.

You can start it but it depends on what the belt connects to.If it also runs the water pump, the van will overheat
