You are standing to close with the driver or you are standing to far way. Because if you hit your irons good, the same swing will work for the driver but you must stand futher away from the ball due to the club being longer.

The driver is the hardest club to hit because it is the longest. I've been golfing for about 5 yrs and never really improved, but this summer I took some lessons and really learned a lot. What I learned most is that it is very important to get your left shoulder well behind the ball on your back swing.(if your right handed) Also, you have to remember since it is a longer club, the swing path is more like hitting a baseball bat, because the swing path is more level. Also remember to place the ball ahead in your setup. There are a thousand different things that will effect your swing, from body angle, wrist rotation, etc. but I hope this helps. I couldn't hit a straight shot over 200 yards. but just the three adjustments i mentioned before helped me to quit slicing and added about 90 yards! Good luck and remember, Tiger Woods takes a lesson every day, so why shouldn't we?

I have the same problem. Here's my analysis of my own swing. With irons, you land descending blows. I think that is what you are good at, hitting down on the ball. Not advisable with driver.

Here's my suggestion (no swing changes required):

    - accept that you will always be a better iron player than driver

    - shorten the driver to 43.5" or 44" playing length *

    - get a hybrid that you can hit as far as your driver (I have a 2 iron hybrid that goes about 10-yards shorter than my drives, of course my drives only go 250 max)

    * Don't believe the garbage that shorter driver = lost distance. 90% of golfers who shorten their drivers down from standard 45" do not lose distance.

the easiest club to use should be a 5 iron if you want to test clubs alwase take out the 5 iron first. the hardest clubs to use are drivers and long irons like a 2 iron because the face is so flat say 7 or 10 deg. this makse the club less forgiving especially when you are forcing the club head through the ball. try a very relaxed swing leave the grip loose in your hands (ie dont strangle the hell out of it) try this a few times you may not get the distance at first but is should go straight.

Its an entirely different swing. At least that is what I have discovered and I consider myself a serious student of the game. The iron swing is a steeper swing. When using your driver try taking it straight back so the club is perpendicular with the ground. Don't go any further. Then, swing. I learned this using a device called the helicopter. Check it out. Its only 30 bucks!

The easiest way to learn golf like a pro is by following "The Simple Golf Swing" program. It's primarily a 31 page eBook that teaches golfers how to make solid contact with the ball, how to avoid hitting fat, how to avoid slicing, how get more power, accuracy, and consistency in your swing. Consistency being the number 1 golf skill.

You not only get the eBook though, you also receive a ton of extra material including video, lessons on putting, driving, chipping, sand play etc. Here is their official site: http://www.golfswingguru.net/

If you're anything like me, you hate to hit a bad shot after paying so much money to play, so you rely on what you know you can hit, and neglect the thing that needs tha most practice. Negative thinking hurts as well. Trust me, you know what to do, all you need to do is practice, practice, practice. Hit the range every chance you get.

I used to do the same thing. It was a balance issue for me. I was getting my weight ahead of my swing. I balanced it out and made sure my weight shift was in the middle when I made contact and It made me more consistent. It really depends on what your doing when you can't hit your driver. I was slicing, but golf is complicated, you didn't really give us alot of info.

if u r slicing the ball there is 2 problems\

u may be starting with ur hands therefore leaving the swing plane

or u have a soft shaft and u r too strong for it and just flexing the shaft and not having the club face square.

i had a similar problem and that fixed it 4 me
