My terraced house had also been broken into sometime in March & since then I have taken some precautions:

1. Install extra lightings at the back & front of the house, you know those that lights up whenever movements are detected.

2. When nobody's in, may I suggest you switch on your radio to make your house looked occupied. I also make it a point to leave one light on inside the house with the radio on when we are sleeping.

3. Join forces with your neighbours to have a neighbourhood watch area on the lookout for suspicious characters. It’s quite popular here in my hometown - they have this tagline 'If I don't call the police, my neighbours will'

4. You might consider replacing your fencing with a high brick wall as a deterrent.

5. The empty land beside your house is a problem. Whoever owns it should have the grass cut regularly not only to evade suspicious characters but also keep out snakes.

Edit: if you're not keen to invest in house alarm, then keep your car keys/alarms near you when sleeping. Activate them if you suspect a break-in. If you have 2 or 3 cars even better, activate them all at the same time. Hehehe! If that doesn't scare them away, then nothing will.

CCTV and alarm system is the best avaiable so far, you can link it into internet and view it on your 3G phone anytime anywhere

You may want to form a residence association and hire security guards to patrol every hour and put a big signboard 'this area patrolled by security guards 24 hours'.

It works at my place, but the patrolling only happen at nights

1. Call the security alarm system company and use their services

2. Install CCTV camera, i think they are going pretty cheap nowadays otherwise, install the camera for show only. Nobody knows its working or otherwise.

3. Make friends with 2 rotweilers.

I guess suggesting getting a dog isn't a good option?

(sorry ya but dogs are really good creatures for security. if it weren't for them my ol'neigbhorhood got more break-ins.)

There's also some lights that will auto-switch on according to timer.

a high concrete fence isn't foolproof, but if anyone wants to go across it will have to climb it instead of cutting it.

An alarm system would be good. Most residential home thief would be scare away.

Install a heavier fence and a home burglar alarm system.

u see my JB home now got a family of 5 living dere!!! kanasai .. whoever those people are.. 1st time was sucessful in asking them to leave .. few mths later we came back they are still there ... and we are still trying to get rid of them.. no idea how they broke in too..

only solution is to sell yr house.

i ll suggest a CCTV security system that link to the security HQ then police
