Depends on how long you are going to be here.

If you are working, try getting friendly with workmates, have a beer after work etc

If you are studying, get friendly with fellow students

Clubs (not the Night Club variety) are a good move. Join a sports club, Tennis, Squash, Dragon Boats, rowing, sailing. Go to the nearest sailing club (Royal Perth, South Perth, Fremantle etc) and look for skippers advertising for crew. (you don't need experience). Can you play bridge or play a musical instrument?. If not then join something and leard to.

I always found that if I joined some group that had my hobbies (mostly photography) I always found someone to talk to. There are groups in the local phone books

Go to the nearest pub - chuck some money on the bar counter & announce that the drinks are on you!
