Is it normal for my puppy to pant a lot?
I just got a miniature American Eskimo puppy and she keeps panting, I think its more than usual. I don't think I'm depriving her of water and I have AC in the house. What do you think it is?

Our puppies "panted" more than our older dog. It wasn't really that they were panting (we saw it more when they were asleep), it was really really fast breathing all the time. Yep - it can be normal. I would call you vet and talk with them!! Talking on the phone is free and your vet should be someone that you can talk to about anything regarding your pets - your first line of defense so to speak. It sounds normal, but if you feel that it's excessive or she seems in distress, call the vet!

If you could see how thick their fur really is, then you would understand why they pant all the time. They are hot and plus a puppy will do this since they are so young. Their heart, the blood flow, all different then an older dog.

Dogs "sweat" through their panting. So, when you see your dog panting it is a good sign that they are hot. You can help cool a dog by wetting their chest and their neck. If you notice, dogs will lay down on cool surfaces....that is how they cool off the fastest.

When a dog pants sometimes it even means that its happy, or excited. But maybe if your dog keeps panting for no reason then you should bring it in.(To a doctor.)
