What type of tree do I have?

It has little berries about 1/2 inch in diameter. It has a pinkish red skin with white meat on the inside. Smells kind of like an apple but the berries(fruit) are really small. In the early spring it has beautiful pink blossoms. Are these edible?

I wish I could see the leaves. It well could be a Crab Apple. Some sold as flowering Crab Apple do produce fruit like you describe. If it is they are edible but very tart and really only good for jelly or preserves, spiced apples. That's what Grandma did with hers. Too sour to eat fresh.

Your description puts me in mind of a hawthorn.

Here's a picture of a Midlands Hawthorn I took this afternoon:

    And here's the Wikipedia entry:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_Hawthorn

The fruit is edible but doesn't taste of much at all. It used to be eaten by peasants during hard times.

If that doesn't match I would say it's probably some form of crabapple.
