Puzzling Car question?

Puzzling Car question

Having driven only two kilometers from home in only six months

old Toyota Innova in India, on a rainy morning in dense traffic, road users drew my attention to fumes rising on either side of the car but neither from the engine area nor from the back of the car.

On examination at the spot and later at the work shop no defect was found. Need to know possible causes, though since then it has driven a lot without any similar mishap.

will be thankful for any suggestions

It's probably just steam caused by water splashing from the street onto your hot exhaust system... You said it was a rainy morning.

Certain unseen parts wet by the heavy rain or going through the water might evaporated when the car got hot. This is the only reason since you checked with the workshop

From what u have described, i think the fumes came from your wet exhaust pipe(full length), it's either by water or by oil, depends on how long the fumes were seen. I can say that bec. you said that the fumes came neither from the front nor from the back.

Well it could be steam from the water on your hot exhaust.

Or if it was cold out - you may have a exhaust leak .
