advice on selling (w reg) scenic 1.4 16v privately?

Hi

i'm selling my (2000 W reg) 1.4 16v Renault scenic at the moment and was looking for some advice.

The car has covered just over 71k and has just had a new cam belt and tensioners, water pump, ignition coils, spark plugs, air fliter, alternator belt, head gasket and valves.

All this work is covered by a 12 month warranty would it put you off buying the car or not?

Apart from the work above being done, the scenic has been a great and realiable family car, I'm only selling it as its a manual car but my wife drives an automatic and it makes more sense to have two automatic cars.

thanks

Update:

hi thanks for that and it is on auto trader and ebay. The scenic had the cam belt replaced because one of the bolts which holds the alternator belt pulley worked loose as I got to work. The alternator belt jumped off the pulley and got caught around the bottom cam belt tensioner. It got wrapped around pretty tight which knocked the timing out, It bent a few of the valves so replaced the lot, both inlets and exhaust.

It always helps selling to make the car look really good when presenting it in person and in the advert. You can do this at fairly low cost by just buying a few cheap accessories (like: new mats in the front), cleaning or touching-up any marks in interior, refinishing the tyres with tyre dressing, a good polish all round). Take some really nice photos showing off its best features and advertise the car on ebay where all these photos can be displayed at minimum cost. Set a lowest acceptable but realistic price (see Parker Guide) and do not mention that the engine has been rebuilt just that it has been well maintained and has a full service record. Good luck

I'm guessing your cam-belt snapped and trashed a few valves?

That wouldn't put me off. In fact, it'd be a bonus to know that'd been done as cars always seem to need that kind of work at that age and mileage.

Don't mention it in the ad. Just say "no expense spared on keeping car in perfect working order" and show them the receipts when they come to look it over.
