How to begin a career in Insurance?

As you have suggested, there are schools that you may pay to attend. These schools mainly prepare you for the test/tests that you must pass to become licensed in your chosen field.

One suggestion, and something I did 27 years ago, is to simply check out the study manuals at your local library and save yourself several hundred in school course fees.

It is a wonderful field to be involved with, and I encourage you to get involved.

It depends on what line of insurance you want to get into, and exactly what you think you would like to do. I work in claims and there are different laws in each state as to what is required. Many states require an adjuster's license in order to adjust claims. I know that Agents that sell insurance have to have broker's licenses. Many insurance companies have their own in-house training classes and "schools" that they will send you to, and I know that some colleges will offer insurance courses that most employers will pay for.

The insurance field is an excellent career path. I have been working in insurance for over 30 years. The pay is great, the opportunities endless. Good luck!

To be an insurance broker, Life, Health, P & C, you are required to go to school and be licensed. Go online to the NY Dept. of Banking and Insurance to get the info on licensing requirements and schools.

I am not in N.Y. but will tell you, if you are young, and have multiple friends, family, and people you know, and have a great personality, go for it.

If not, don't waste you time with the deceptive practices, contradictions, and pyramid building you will hear and be faced with.

Every state has its own license requirements.
