My harddrive is about to fail. What is the best way to copy it to a new HD so I can plug the new HD in and run

My hard drive likes to reset all the time, and makes horrible noises. I would like to copy the entire contents of the old HD to a brand new one and not have to worry about re-installing all my programs and settings. It's just not practical. Whats the best way to do this? (Copying an image or a HD backup) And does anyone have any suggestions which program to use.

Most new hard drives (Maxtor, western digital, seagate, etc.) come with or you can download utilities from their website to install and copy all your stuff from the old drive to the new one.

Just plug in the new drive as your secondary drive, run windows, install the utility, and let 'er rip. Done it hundreds of times.
