I am going to detroit - places to party?
I am British and visitng Detroit for one night at the beginning of November - any suggestions on where to go out drinking/pubs/clubs? - i hear Detroit inner city can be quite rough - any suggestions? where to go, where not to go. I'm going to the detroit pistons game on the sunday so need to know where to stay so i can have access to both the cool bars on the saturday night as well as being able to get to the game the next day. - is it safer to stay in Windsor? is that a good party spot?

Do not stay in Windsor. That is completely crazy. Chances are you will miss the basketball game with all of the congestion at the bridge/tunnel. If I was coming in to see the Piston I would stay in Birmingham at the Townsend Hotel. It were the visiting team usually stays, with some cool bars and restaraunts right in the area. Or I would stay in Downtown Rochester at The Royal Park Hotel. Great Bars there as well, plus it is close to the Palace of Auburn Hills. Both of these areas are very safe and they wont leave you with a 1 hour drive to the game on Sunday. Enjoy.

Sorry don't know the hotels available but if you're here and want to see the Pistons play, Detroit and Windsor are not good choices. The Palace, where the games are played is north of Det. and relativly far from Windsor. Pontiac is less than a mile for the Palace and about 20 miles north of Det. There are a lot of places there to party and it's safe and not too big a city at all. The area has tons of hotels, and night life. Rochester, Birmingham, Royal Oak, Farmington etc are all close suburbs that are safe and have a lot to offer.

I live in Detroit & was born & raised here. Don't believe the negativity, there are plenty of wealthy people living in Detroit in many great Detroit neighborhoods. When you come try to locate Indian Village, Rosedale Park, Palmer Woods, Boston Edison District that have extremely expensive homes. Most people can't afford to look at buying a home in those neighborhoods. Windsor isn't safer, my coworker's son had his jaw broken with no police help in August. Downtown Detroit is so remodeled, I think you can party down there. Its a few places, but many have different crowds different nights. Places such as Proof on Woodward, Oslo on Woodward (its a sushi bar with a club downstairs & all types of great music!), Elysium, Majestic, Centaur Bar, Hockeytown Restaurant & I can go on. Greektown is a strip of resturants and a few clubs. MGM Grand Casino has plenty of food and clubs. Downtown Royal Oak which is about 15 minutes or less from Detroit has a bunch of restaurants. They always party there every day of the week. I think between downtown detroit & downtown royal oak, you'd be just fine. Just know...some places are expensive to get in with dress codes. Make sure its 21 & up it really makes a change in the crowd! Listen to radio stations & they'll tell you where to party also. Watch the lines outside the bars, it shows you what type of crowd or music it is.

Sips in Farmington Hills, MI
Tequila Rain - Novi, MI
Downtown Pontiac, MI
Downtown Royal Oak, MI
Downtown Ann Arbor
All these places are about 30-45 minutes from Auburn Hills, MI (where the Palace is). Downtown Pontiac is actually about 15 minutes from there. I'd go there. They have a strip of clubs in Downtown Pontiac, along with pubs/bars that have live music. I'd definitely party in Pontiac.
Go to Metrotimes.com http://metrotimes.com/ and look for nightspots. It will give you websites of the particular bars. You can search by city. Just type in Pontiac and see what pops up.
Source(s): FYI-Aside from the Palace, there's not much going on in Auburn Hills. Pontiac is where it's at. - msijgLv 51 decade ago
If you are going to a Pistons game then get a room in AUburn Hills or Pontiac. I would reccomend Auburn Hills and then go to aol city guide online. Pick the type of food you like and it opens up options, clubs, bars-no problem. You can also go to
clickondetroit.com which has local places rated.
Have fun, enjoy the game! G O PISTONS!
