Old guy needs computer help?

Beta is being offered. I have dial-up. What effect will beta have on a dial-up application vs. high-speed? High-speed is not available in my area. Should I switch to beta?

Update:

I need a detailed explanation of what beta is. How is it different than the system that I am using? Is the old system or beta better for dial-up ? Will beta slowdown dial-up, speed it up or no effect?

Update 2:

Yahoo beta

What is 'beta'? Do you mean some software in beta stage? If you think the software is worth trying, you may initiate the download and leave it to download over the night.

Beta usually means the the application is going through "builds" it is not "Gold" yet. Depending on where the application is in its life (just launched or new, or, been through a lot of testing and builds and has few "flaws" or builds left to go before it is gold) is important to find out. early stages of beta can have lots of problems thereby giving you lots of problems. Basicaly you need to find out how long since the application has been launched and make your decision.

Your ISP is offering Beta? Doesn't ring a bell. Beta usually means an untested version of a program.
