Corporate Finance, Anything valuation oriented and accounting, as much as you can get. Investments classes around market structure, and know how fixed income and equity, along with all derivatives work . Banking is great, hard to get into, very cylical, and be prepared to work long, long hours.

You don't necessarily need an Ivy League degree. I think the previous poster meant something along the lines of one (MIT, Stanford, Vanderbilt, Duke, which are non-ivy, but just as good if not better). You need the education (well known school or b-school), the classes, and the drive. I think the main focus should be on alumni and school network. If investment banks do not recruit from your school, then you'll have a hard time getting interviews. Go to planned events where they have info sessions, etc. I am not sure where you live, but if you are in the NYC area, then go to NYU or Columbia for their info sessions. Ask for business cards and really try to show interest. You can take all of the classes that you want, but if you don't have a foot in the door then you'll never land an interview. Banking isn't like medical or law where good grades along can really help you get in. Your network is far more important.

There are one of a kind recommendations you'll take, but it surely feels like you will have the gist of it. It is viable to get into funding banking with a finance, accounting or economics measure (regularly different industry similar levels are applicable.) Getting into the enterprise may also be difficult with out a lot enjoy so the internships are very handy, as are the one of a kind varieties of certifications to be had. You will absolutely keep in that first role for two-three years after which transfer up (although, if you're particularly well at what you do it may be quicker than two-three years). I do not believe an MBA is a need to but it surely absolutely does not harm.
