    If n is the first of these integers, then the next one is n+1. We're told that 2n + 4(n+1) = 10. Solve this for n, then write n and n+1.

    At first glance, this is a question about 2 unknown integers, "x" and "y", and if that was all the information we had, this question would be much more difficult to solve.

    However, the key to understanding this question is the clue that says the integers are consecutive. If they're consecutive, it means that one of the 2 numbers is one more than the other.

    Or, in other words, that one of our integers is X and the other is "x+1".

    Now that we know that - the equation is simply this:

    2(x) + 4 (x+1) = 10

    2x + 4x + 4 = 10

    6x + 4 = 10

    6 x = 6

    x = 1

    Since the first integer is "x" and the second is "x+1", the solution for x tells us that one of the integers is 1 (x) and the other is 2 (x+1).

    Let's check it and see:

    2(1) + 4(2) = 10

    Looks good!

    Since the two numbers are consecutive, one must be 1 higher than the other... so your equation would be: 4x + 3(x+1) = 10, 4x + 3x + 3 = 10, 7x + 3 = 10, 7x = 7, x = 1. Therefore the two integers taken as x and x+1 are 1 and 2.

    consecutive means one after the other FYI

    integer #1=x

    integer #2= x+1

    2(x) + 4(x+1) =10

    2x +4x+4=10

    6x+4=10

    6x=6

    x=1

    >>so first integer is 1

    >>second integer is 2

    now check yourself

    2(1) + 4(2) = 10

    2+8= 10

    10=10

    Integers are n, n + 1

    sum of 2 times the first integer and 4 times second integer is 10.

    2n + 4(n + 1) = 10

    2n + 4n + 4 = 10

    6n = 6

    n = 1

    The two integers can be represented by x and x + 1. These would be consecutive integers.

    2x + 4 (x + 1) = 10

    2x + 4x + 4 = 10

    6x = 6

    x = 1

    The integers are 1 and 2.

    Here is how to solve this question:

    Let the two numbers be X and (X+1)

    Then

    2*X + 4*(X+1) = 10

    2X+4X+4=10

    6X = 6

    X = 1

    So -- the consecutive integers are 1 and 2

    use variables for the integers.

    x=first integer x+1=second integer

    2x+4(x+1)=10

    2x+4x+4=10

    6x+4=10

    -4 -4

    6x=6 (divide by 6)

    x=1

    x+1=2

    the answer is 1&2

    x = 1st integer

    x+1 = 2nd integer

    2x + 4(x+1) =10

    6x = 6

    x=1 = 1st integer

    x+1 = 2 = 2nd integer

    Ok you have that the first number is n, and the second number is n+1, so therefore

    2n+4(n+1)=10

    2n+4n+4=10

    6n=6

    n=1

    and the second number is 2
